Bear Stearns Cos. Chief Executive Alan Schwartz says he is comfortable the investment bank turned a profit in the fiscal first quarter.

In an interview on CNBC, Schwartz says he expects Bear Stearns fell within the range of estimates that analysts on Wall Street forecast for the fiscal quarter that ended last month.

According to a Thomson Financial survey, analysts forecast a profit ranging from 46 cents per share to $1.61 per share.

The New York-based company\'s stock is down 20 percent in the past month, partly because of concerns about the bank\'s financial stability.

Schwartz denied rumors the company faces a liquidity squeeze, saying Bear has a $17 billion cushion to work with.
