Archaelogical evidence shows that ore was mined there as long as 3000 yrs ago. In 1988 the mine was closed as the ore reserves were exhausted.The Rammelsberg mine, the surrounding developed landscape,as well as the old city of Goslaris one of the most impressive mining districts in existence.
