A Cessna Grand Caravan powered by a 750hp Magni500 electric propulsion system soars during its maiden flight, from Moses Lake, Washington on May 28, 2020. Propulsion company Magnix makes the Magni500; flight test and engineering specialist AeroTEC replaced the Grand Caravan's Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A turboprop with the Magni500. The companies call the aircraft the largest electric-powered passenger or cargo aircraft to ever fly. As configured, the nine-passenger Grand Caravan can carry 4-5 passengers on 100-mile flights. The companies are aiming for regulatory certification by late 2021.
