SGEN's ADC technology will be revolutional in cancer therapy. Medical dream in cancer therapy is coming true. There are so many toxic agents, which can kill any cells including cancer cells for sure. However, those agents are so toxic and non-specific that they cannot be used (therapeutic window is narrow). However, with ADC technology, such toxic agent is wrapped inside an antibody and such antibody only binds to the specific tumor cell with identified biomarker. Toxic agent is internalized into cancer cell and then release, killing cancer cell from inside while normal cells are not affected much. This is a medical miracle if ADC is proven true. Last Thursday, FDA panel voted 10:0 to recommend approval of SGEN's first drug with such technology, serving as a proof-of-concept for this technology. If ADC is further proven, it will dramatically improve cancer therapy outcomes. Big guys like Genentech, Pfizer etc are licensing such technology.
