Alex is a bright little boy who is 4.5 years old. He is very articulate, using his words to ask questions for clarification or to gain more information. Alex is very curious about his world. He frequently asks for classmates who are not at school or why an object is in a certain place, or who is in another classroom. When a teacher gives him an answer, he usually thinks about it and then says,"ok". Sometimes he will think for a while and then refer to the questions again later in the day.

Alex is very careful and precise about his work. If he is working on something such as drawing or building, he will carefully complete the project before starting something new. He has very good find motor control and products precise letters and intricate figure drawings, Often he will produce drawings with extensive detail but not always fulfilling the direction given by the teacher. Alex puts great thought into his work sometimes working long after the other children have moved onto another activity. On occasion this become problematic, as the class may need to move to another space or activity. He seems to have formed an agenda for himself that does not coincide with that of the class. A teacher will negotiate with him to save his work for a while and finish it at another time. He may not happy with the plan but he always complies.

Alex has good early math and reading skills. He can count, sort and petten with ease. He can name all upper and lower case letters. He enjoy looking at books and pointing out words that he knows. Alex can read may words by sight and is beginning to put sounds together to form new words. He enjoys doing this often throught the day. He reads posters in the hallyways and in the bathrooms and shows them to his teachers or classmates. During moring meetings, he is always anxious to demonstrate his ability by reading the morning message.

Alex has made some friends among the childeren. He engage in activities with Amy and Colin. Alex enjoys building marble mazes or car ramps with a group. He shares and takes turns appropriatly. Alex particularly enjoys the challenge of building with lego. He can spend a long time working on a project of his own design. Occasionaly, he will chat with children sitting near him but often is too engrossed in his building to converse.

We enjoy having Alex as part of our class this year. He is an excellent student with great potential. We look forward to the remainning months and the new adventures that they may bring.
