　　在一个度假中心，一位十七岁的少女随着家人参加，在因缘际会之下，经由舞蹈表演，她认识了一位舞者，在学习过程中，和他陷入热恋，少女开始了解到热舞的刺激与魅力......
　　
　　1963年夏末的凯勒曼山区，弗朗西丝和父母、妹妹一道来到此地度假。还在上学的弗朗西丝是个17岁的正经姑娘，她对男孩子、舞蹈课和家庭游戏都不感冒。一天晚上，于一个偶然的机会，她进入了一家旅馆，发现那里正在举行舞会。让她吃惊的是，这里的人都双双紧贴在一起，疯狂地舞动着，这就是充满色情气息的“脏舞”。这时，舞蹈教练约翰尼·卡斯尔来到不知所措的弗朗西丝面前，打消了她的顾虑，并教给她舞蹈的基本步法。在学习的过程中，弗朗西丝爱上了约翰尼。由于怕被解雇，约翰尼不敢将这种关系发展下去。约翰尼的舞伴彭尼怀上了大学生罗比的孩子，弗朗西丝让当医生的父亲为彭尼会诊，父亲以为彭尼的怀孕是约翰尼所致，遂不让弗朗西丝和其来往，但弗朗西丝背着父亲仍偷偷地和约翰尼约会。一个掉了钱包的顾客诬陷是约翰尼乾的，约翰尼就此失了业。弗朗西丝的父亲这时知道了彭尼孩子的真正父亲，对错怪了约翰尼懊悔不已。约翰尼在举行的夏季结束的晚会上归来，他同弗朗西丝翩翩起舞，优美的舞姿使所有的人为之倾倒。
