　　人类历史上仅有的两次世界大战都发生在这个世纪，人类最具杀伤力的进攻性武器———原子弹也诞生在这个世纪。除此之外，这个世纪还是人类社会文明毁坏与损失最严重的世纪。
　　
　　《世纪战争》通过回首二十世纪所发生的主要战争，来研究战争、理解战争，从而引发人们对于战争与和平问题的进一步思索。
　　
　　和以往的战争纪录片不同的是，《世纪战争》加入了中国的军事学，和战争史研究者的最新研究成果，尤其对上世纪历次战争的策源、发动、进程、结束等环节有许多独家而精妙的论述，同时对如何制止战争提出诸多新颖观点。该片还着重叙述了在一战、二战的欧洲战场上，许多中国人从军浴血、孤胆斗敌和劫后余生的历史细节。角度独特，且有让人不能释怀的曲折故事。
