Boy charged over roo attack

WEST Australian police have charged a 17-year-old boy with killing a kangaroo by deliberately running it down and repeatedly driving over it.
Police allege the Spearwood boy and a passenger were travelling in a four-wheel-drive vehicle along Preston Beach Road, south of Perth, early on Sunday morning when they went after the animal, believed to be less than 12 months old.
It is alleged the boy ran it down, before turning around and driving over it several more times.
The driver was originally charged only with driving without a licence but police say he has now also been charged with unlawfully destroying an animal.
The teenager has also been charged with criminal damage over a destructive rampage early on Saturday when about 100 reflector posts and street signs were ripped out of the ground and tossed on to the road.
The damage has been estimated about $1200.
The boy will appear in the Mandurah Children's Court tomorrow.
