There ought have been a war victim memorial right next to the shrine. The new generations should know what those "heroes" did while serving the country, or rather, that pretentious and cowardly emperor.
The emperor was spared to minimize the US army casualty during the invasion in a practical yet morally questionable deal. The emperor had blood on his hands. But China was too weak to be heard.
The window of opportunity has passed. New generations are not born with ancestral sin or revenge obligation. It's counterproductive and irresponsible to incite hatred, often at the carefully timed hint by the Chinese government.
