THEY HINT from Forbes "While Microsoft Office remained largely unrivaled for decades, its limited scope in terms of collaborative use was highlighted by Google’s offerings which focused largely on this aspect. While Microsoft has addressed these shortcomings over the years through Office 365, the company is still well behind Google in terms of adoption of its cloud storage feature OneDrive (vs. Google Drive). As cloud storage forms an integral part of collaborative productivity software, acquiring Dropbox could level this playing field for Microsoft."
In the wake of Salesforce's acquisition of Slack, The Information staff sat down and brainstormed the likely next M&A targets in the enterprise software space. The publication names Dropbox (DBX +0.6%), Box (BOX +0.5%), and MongoDB (MDB +3.5%) as the next takeover targets. The Information says it would make sense for Microsoft to acquire MongoDB, Cisco to pick up Smartsheet (SMAR +4.1%), and either Oracle or ServiceNow acquiring Dropbox.New Relic (NEWR) is also mentioned as an attractive target that could prove attractive for Microsoft, Oracle, IBM, and Dell.
