Norway and Sweden (5) - Arrive in Stavanger

(2013-09-10 19:38:56) 下一个

From Bergen, there were two boats a day (8am and 4:05pm) going to Stavanger. We wanted to take the morning boat, so we arrived at the ticket office when they opened at 7:30am, and bought 2 tickets. After getting on the boat, I was surprised to find that they had free Wi-Fi. That made the 4.5 hours boat ride go by a lot quicker.

1. Leaving Bergen.

2. Some boat in Bergen harbor.

3. Our boat stopped at several places along the way, to pick up / drop off passengers.

4. Housing we saw along the way.

5. Housing we saw along the way.

We arrived in Stavanger around 12:30pm. With the help of a friendly local, we found the apartment I booked using booking.com. Of all the places I booked for this trip, Stavanger is the most expensive one by far. The apartment cost 4800 NOK (~$800) for 3 nights, and it was the cheapest place I could find on booking.com with a central location. There was no meal option. But they did have free Wi-Fi and a loaded kitchen.

6. There are 3 apartments in this building. Ours was on the 3rd floor. Two days before our check-in, they emailed me the key code so we could let ourselves in.

7. Just off the entrance was the kitchen. There were some pots and pans, dishes, cups, silverware to use. Some oil, salt, oats, popcorn, foil ... were in the cupboard, probably from people living here before.

8. The living room, which had a ladder to go to the attic.

9. The bedroom off the living room. It had a twin size bed.

10. The other bedroom had a full size bed.

11. There were 2 twin size beds in the attic.

12. Not far from our apartment was this beautiful church. It was free to enter.

13. Stavanger Cathedral. It looked nice from outside. We were going to go in, until we saw a sign in front saying 'adult 30 NOK', so we didn't. Later I remembered reading a post on tripadvisor, saying this church is free to enter until a cruise ship is in town.

14. And sure enough, there were 2 cruise ships in the harbor.

As soon as the cruise ships left, the sign (adult 30 NOK) in front of Stavanger Cathedral was removed. So we went in for free. It was o.k., not worth paying money to see it in my opinion.

15. Lake next to Stavanger Cathedral.

16. Wandering around old Stavanger.
