Spain (10) - Mezquita-Catedral of Córdoba

Today's plan was to leave Seville in the morning, go to Córdoba for sightseeing, then go to Madrid to check in our 4th and final hotel for the trip. The front desk lady at the apartment was really nice. She told us it is better to take Avant train than AVE train to Córdoba. She said it takes about the same amount of time (45 minutes), but Avant train ticket cost 17 euros/person, while AVE train ticket cost 34 euros/person. She even printed a train schedule for us the day before.

We arrived in Córdoba just after 10:00 am, found a tiny tourist information office in the train station, got a map, dropped our luggage in a locker at the bus station across the street, then started our sightseeing.

According to Wikipedia: "In the 10th and 11th centuries, Córdoba was one of the most advanced cities in the world as well as a great cultural, political, financial and economic centre. The Great Mosque of Córdoba dates back to this time." Over the years we have seen so many churches, most of them we can't remember much any more, but we'll surely remember the Mezquita-Catedral (Mosque–Cathedral) of Córdoba because it is so unique inside. The building started out as a Christian church around 600, then the Moors reworked it into a mosque since 784, until Córdoba was recaptured by Christians in 1236, the mosque was turned back into a Christian church again.
