China 2007 (4) - Beijing IV (北京烤鸭)

(2007-12-09 19:16:02) 下一个
Day 4 continue
No visit to Beijing is complete until you see the Great Wall and eat the Beijing Roast Duck. We don't go see the Great Wall every time, but we do eat the roast duck every time we go back, and always at the same restaurant: Beijing Jinsong Quanjude Roast Duck Restaurant.

1. Menu.

2. Too many dishes, too little room in the stomach.

3. A roast duck costs 118 RMB (~$16) here, including the pancake, dipping sauces, sliced shallots, cucumbers etc.

4. Some other dishes we ordered. This one is eel (鳝丝).

5. Duck gizzard (鸭胗).

6. Shrimp balls (虾球).

7. Vegetable (芥蓝).

8. The duck. The all skin pieces are served by dipping in sugar and garlic sauce.

9. The meat with skin pieces are served by dipping in plum sauce (甜面酱), wrapped with sliced shallots, cucumbers in steamed pancake.

The food was delicious. The price was reasonable, 240 RMB (~$32) for dinner for four. But I had one major complain: the restaurant, just like all the other restaurants we ate in China, allowed smoking, and there were no smoking / non-smoking sections. Everyone sit in one big dinning room, either smoked, or secondhand smoked. We couldn't wait to get out of there after dinner.

(To be continued)
