Gary Jules - Mad World (Donnie Darko Soundtrack) Lyrics

All around me are familiar faces
Worn out places, Worn out faces
Bright and early for the daily races
Going nowhere, Going nowhere
Their tears are filling up their glasses
No expression, No expression
Hide my head I want to drown my sorrows
No tomorrow, No tomorrow

And I find it kind of funny, I find it kind of sad
These dreams in which i'm dying, Are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you, I find it hard to take
When people run in circles its a very very
Mad World, Mad World

Children waiting for the day they feel good
Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday
And they feel the way that every child should
Sit and listen, Sit and listen
Went to school and I was very nervous
No one knew me, No one knew me
Hello teacher tell me whats my lesson
Look right through me, Look right through me

And I find it kind of funny, I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which i'm dying, Are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you, I find it hard to take
When people run in circles it's a very very
Mad World, Mad World

Enlargen your world

Mad World

From Wikipedia:
  • Gary's song 'Gone Daddy' is based upon his family and himself relocating to North Carolina. When living in L.A. a neighbor was gunned down at night. While the cops were buzzing around investigating the shooting, Gary approached one of the officers and explained his child was trying to take a nap. Gary asked if the officer knew when they would be finished. The officer told Gary he did not know, but he could always leave LA. So, Gary did.
  • Gary's song 'Wichita' has inspirations from a class Gary took at UCLA regarding Native American history. There was a story about how the Native Americans followed the buffalo around the nation to survive, and when the "white man" finished the intercontinental railroad, the buffalo started to head back south. When they came upon the rail road, the buffalo would not cross it, and millions of them died. Also, Gary has only spent one night in the actual city of Wichita.
  • Gary has stated that 'No Poetry' is possibly his favorite song he has written.
