I-140被取消身份为何

I had been in F1 until December 2004. Before the end of last Fall semester I filed for the transfer of F1 to H4 while my spouse and asked for H1 extension for the 7th year based on the approved I-140 got through his former employer. Unfortunately, we received a RFE from USCIS last week, informing us that I-140 had been revoked. Now though he has a pending LC filed by his current employer, but it is far from the 365 days requirement for extending H1B for the 7th year. Does his case have any hope? Am I already out of status (I did not register this spring)?
