　　请允许小雨问一个有趣的哲学问题：六千万法国人会错吗？

　　首先，介绍这么一首歌：“五千万法国人不会错”，由索菲·塔柯演唱。
　　歌曲旋律带有明显的上个世纪二十年代的风格。幽默风趣的歌词反映了那个年代，巴黎所拥有的自由开放的风貌，以及与此同时的美国，则充满了检查制度和禁令。详情请读[1]。

　　上个世纪二十年代，对小雨来说，实在是太遥远了。
　　倒数第二段有一句歌词解释一下：“To get it, they don't have to give up their right eye”，字面上的意思是“要喝到那酒，他们不必放弃他们的右眼”，小雨猜想，实际上是双关语，意味着“要喝到那酒，他们不必放弃他们的权利”。因为单词right在英语里有两个意思：“右边的”以及“权利”。
　　歌词翻译得很匆忙，疏忽错误之处，请不吝指教。

　　其次，介绍这么一本书：
　　“六千万法国人不会错 - 为什么我们热爱法国，但是不喜欢法国人”
　　“Sixty Million Frenchmen Can't Be Wrong: Why We Love France but Not the French”
　　by Jean-Benoit Nadeau and Julie Barlow, 2003

　　这本书是由两位蒙特利尔的加拿大人写的，文笔妙趣横生。她(他)们自称取该书名是得到了“五千万法国人不会错”这首歌的启发。她(他)们持着独立和探索的精神深入法国考察，浪迹城乡各地，努力地得出了她(他)们自己的结论。

此书的书名是得到了 Cole Porber写的音乐剧“五千万法国人不会错”的启发，然而，并不是文学意义上的借用。它只不过反映了我们的同情，以及我们的目标：致力于向那些关于法国的众多假定作出挑战。人云亦云是很容易的，而身临其境地调查研究法国则要困难得多。于是，就诞生了这书名。

The title, borrowed from a Cole Porber musical – Fifty Million Frenchmen Can't Be Wrong – is not to be taken literally. It merely reflects our sympathy, and our goal to challenge assumptions about France. It is easy to pass judgement on the French, but much harder to examine them in their own turf – hence the title.

　　书中有一点结论给小雨的印象很深：美洲人与欧洲人，对世界的看法为何如此不同？她(他)们认为，因为，加拿大和她的邻国只有二百来年的历史；而法国，如果从公元５世纪法兰克人征服高卢，建立法兰克王国算起，到现在有多少年历史了？法國最早的根源大約在10世紀，查理曼帝國分裂；根據843年《凡爾登條約》，東部的部分形成現下的德意志，中部是在後來逐漸消亡的勃艮第，而西部則逐漸成為現在的法蘭西。所以，美洲人与欧洲人形成了不同的历史观念、文化形态和道德价值观，等等。可是，中国也有几千年的历史啊，为什么，在某一特定的历史时期，人们反而往往会要么下意识地，要么偏听偏信地，一股脑儿地赞颂某一特定国的人民及文化，或是诅咒某一特定国的人民及文化呢？沉思中[4]。。。
