Today, we are gathered here to remember Bob as a dear friend or relative. I'm Feng, and I've known Bob since we were classmates about 30 years ago. I'd like to tell you so many things about Bob – what an amazing person he was and what a splendored life he lived, but I could only contribute a few anecdotes.

When I first became a sophomore, a classmate sitting in front turned back and asked me about the heat capacity of water in evaporation. It turned out that he forgot to unplug a water heater back at the dorm before the class and was afraid the water would burn out. He thought it would be okay, but a black charcoal circle was burned on his desk.

That, was the beginning of our friendship. Actually, his name was no strange to me – I knew he was the top attractor of mosquitoes during the military training, getting 100 blocks in a day. Then he lived a room next to ours, and I often heard him practicing typing diligently on that very desk.

Bob merged into my class from the “Young Gifted Class” in the 2nd year. Since he was two or three years younger than most of us, he was talkative and vivacious. Sometimes he liked to play the flute. Since martial art movies were trendy at that time, everyone thought the vertical version of flute – xiao – was so cool. Once he was wheedled by a hawker in the street to buy a xiao, but under scrutiny, it looked more like a pole cut off a broom.

A big fan of movies and videos, Bob often invited other classmates to enjoy the shows. Once before the semester started, he suggested we two watch a movie near the campus. A thunder storm kept us under a small shop's awning and drenched us. But being young and merry, we thought nothing could stop us in life. His optimism never wavered, even when he was the only person in our class who was assigned to a wet, dark, and moldy dorm in the 3rd year.

Bob once liked Hong Kong movie stars so much that he decorated his dorm with posters of Rosamund Kwan and Joey Wong. But when Kitty's class moved to the main campus in the 3rd year, the posters disappeared and Bob stayed as long as possible in the computer lab of the Graphic Animation Team, where he could find his passion in career and his dream girl. After graduation, he surprised the boys by being the first to marry, since he was the youngest amongst us. The ceremony was so well attended and their marriage so perfect that everyone knew they were a match made in heaven.

After Bob got the MS offer, he kept persuading me to move here. I still remember the first day I arrived, I was greeted by his big smile at the airport. On that sunny afternoon, we gatherd at Mark's lakeside house and enjoyed a feast prepared by Lisa and Kitty. Later, Bob drove me to pick up my apartment keys and the next day accompanied me to get my car. During this period, he introduced all the grocery stores and restaurant near MS in detail, such as the specialty at Cafe O. Bob enjoyed hearty meals, and his good appetite was famous. Two Big Macs for a one meal was typical of him.

After we purchased our own house, he became our mentor in maintaining the house and keeping the lawn since he was extremely experienced. His Nissan Pathfinder was so familiar to us since he picked up and dropped us off at the airport many times. When my in-laws came to the US for the first time, Bob booked the same flight for his mother, who was an immense help for my in-laws. They tell us to send their condolences to Bob's family!

Bob was, and has always been, an adventurer. During his life, he climbed numerous snow mountains and trekked endless hard trails. He passed the valley of the Grand Canyon and reached the base camp of the Everest. He appreciated all the beauties this world could offer and warmed up so many souls.

Dear classmates, do you still remember when we interned at the Baoshan Iron and Steel, Bob brought along an album by the Taiwanese singer Zheng Zhi-hua. The famous song "Sailor"was played again and again and its chorus was echoing in our mind, "in the wind, in the rain, this pain was nothing. Wipe off the tears, shed off the fears, at least we kept the dreams." Now, when thinking of Bob, the familiar melodies played in his car's stereos all came back to me, just like an old friend. And now and again, let see our dear Bob off to peace and heaven. May his soul bless his beloved ones, and calm and bliss stay with them forever!

Thank you, everyone!
