金融街的真正大师

今天老头来介绍一位金融界的真正大师。看过《华尔街之狼》的电影的人，应该能够看到电影里有一位只会编程序的华裔面孔，就是映射那位金融界的大神，不过电影里有关他的作用，根本没有交代清楚。其实，他的影响比那位销售员可是高N个阶层还有多余。这位大神的名字我就不说了，因为是老头认识的熟人，不能太暴露。如果大家用心点，就可以狗出来。

这位大神南开毕业后去了加拿大的滑铁卢大学拿到博士，然后来美国，从JP Morgan开始，经历了N多公司。他的最为主要的贡献就是利用Gaussian Copula，在考虑风险相关的基础上给出了CDO的定价。他的方法有多牛，可能大家不知道。不过，你只要知道从2000年他提出方法开始，到2008年的金融危机，所有的CDO的定价都是利用他的简单而又漂亮的方法，其影响范围远超N万亿美元。

历史上还没有一个经济学家的理论能够达到这么深远的影响，如果2008年的金融危机晚来几年，他基本肯定可以拿到炸药奖，因为在2006年前后，已有人提议他成为炸药奖的候选人。不过成也萧何败萧何，当你的方法被所有人都用的时候，这个可能就是超出了你的方法的边界条件。有关他的方法的使用边界条件的讨论超出了老头想写的内容，不过大家记住一点，那就是在金融市场，如果每个人都用同样的方法，那么总有一天会出大事情的。2月初的short vix的爆炸也是一个道理。

老头介绍这位大神的用意是想说明，股市没有永远的赢家，也没有永远适用的系统和模型，需要的是大家对市场敬畏的态度，和随着市场变化而改变自己方法的决心。

这个世上本来没有大师，只有当所有大师都失败之后，你啥也不干，也就自然成了大师。股市如此，科研如此，婚姻如此，人生也是如此，大家比的是耐力和恒心，比的是谁的持时最长。

Of course, very few people on Wall Street truly understand what the method actually does and its limitation. Most people are either not smart and skilled enough or just lazy to truly analyze any mathematical method and understand it. Most just run on herd instinct.

"他基本肯定可以拿到炸药奖" is arguable. The name of the initiator of the application of the method is David X. Li, 李祥林. The Gaussian copula is indeed an ingenious simple elegant method to transform the problem of finding a distribution given the marginal distributions into the familiar problem of constructing a Gaussian distribution. However, it is only one class of copulas and describes only that class of dependency amongst random variables. Its adoption largely comes from its ease of use and wishful thinking than solid empirical support that the method does largely capture the real distribution. So it is unlikely that a Nobel Prize would be awarded to this technique.
