从网上订货大约2-3星期的时间，Appliances and Cabinets到了 (all from Costco.com, love the store).等到周末,抄起hacksaw, gorilla bar 和 hammer,开始拆! 用了大概两个周末的时间.中间遇到了三大惊奇(难题),使我一度打算放弃自己做的想法.也找来不同的电工,水工,和contractor问价钱.Labor alone 大概要$10,000 到$12,000 的样子.最后咬咬牙,不能花钱让别人have fun. 自己做contractor, 把电工和vent pipes改道工程用$3000外包专业人士,接着干,反正房子是自己的.想怎么折腾就怎么折腾. 照片如下:
先拆门: better have good power tools
旧sink: being hated
cabinets out, strip walls to stud
including Sofit: words of wisdom here - if you have on old one, open this first to see what\'s inside. Will have to be a factor in your design.
half wall and baseboard heat: all will be gone to make way for L-island.
old plumbing: galvanized pipe - typical life 50 years. better to replace with PVC.
Floor: to limit abesteos exposure, rip the whole plastic and plywood, strip down to wood plank subfloor. Too many screws....
BIG SURPRISE #1: 4-inch cast iron main vent hiding in the sofit, would be in the way of 42-inch cabinet:
BIG SURPRISE #2: 2-inch galvanized vent pipe hiding in the sofit, would be in the way of 42-inch cabinet:
BIG SURPRISE #3: main electric wire panel hiding in the closet wall - to be demoed according to design:
终于拆完了:
Wall A: still have to wait for electrician to move main electric lines and reroute vent line
Wall B: need to reroute vent line
Wall C&D: half wall is gone. need to decide on a new heating solution.
