This is a FYR for those who are in market for new cars... Long awaited 09 Jetta TDI is available in VW dealers in 50 states. Because of strong demand, buyers may experience months of waiting time after purchase.
I own a 06 Jetta TDI and am impressed by the car overall performance. In past 2 tanks of diesel fuel, I averaged 44 mpg consistantly, with 70/30 highway/local ratio (I believe I may achieve 46-47mpg on all highway driving). My life time mpg is about 41 over a total of 28kmi on the clock.
Per web info, the price is about $23-24k out of door. It qualifies for $1300 federal tax credit.
