    回答: 1万5千迈的车,换胎必须一对吗?chinomango2008-07-03 21:56:33

15kmi could wear out about 2-4mm in diameter in fully inflated state. That is to say, if you put a new same tire on to it, the new one could be 2 mm bigger in diameter than rest of them.

Although it is not ideal to have one slightly bigger tire, due to the following reasons, it is ignorable:

    (1) Tire manufacturing isn't a rocket science. Tire making is of a process of molding, there are variances of material density, roundness and elastricity, etc... Using a simple term, they are never perfect. If you put 4 new tires on to the wheels and inflated, measure them, you'll find that their variance might be bigger then 2 mm. Your concern is within the vaiance so it is ok.

    (2) Think about a set of same tires worn after 40kmi, due to individual habit, car careness, many people keep driving their cars without rotations for years. The uneven wear on the tires differs greatly. Those four tires won't be same size. Do people still drive it causing problems? Apparently not.

    (3) When one tire is slightly bigger, what impact will be to the car, specially to the wheel? In a perfect world and driving in perfect straight line, the bigger tire wheel will turn less to keep all tires travel same distance. How to make this happen? The answer - the differential gears adjust the turns. However, in real world, as only you are not driving perfect straight line, the differential gear will constantly adjust the turns, so for a 2mm bigger tire, it won't add much extra burden to differential gears.

    (3) What is the strategy? After you buy a new tire, if your car is front wheel drive, put that one in front driver side; if your car is of rear wheel drive, put it at rear driver side. The reason? You want to wear this new tire faster. Weight increase the tire wear. When you drive the car only yourself no passengers, your body weight added to left side...

    Just my 2 cents...

Audio: Bush to Meet European Leaders for Financial Crisis Talks 2008-10-18 09:51:55

The meeting between the European and American leaders is taking place at Camp David, a bucolic retreat outside Washington. It comes just days after European leaders in Brussels agreed to work jointly to aid their ailing banks and fight against the world's worst financial crisis in decades.

At the Brussels summit, President Nicolas Sarkozy of France, the current European Union president, stressed the need for a coordinated EU response to the bloc's economic problems as well as its financial ones.

Sarkozy said European leaders wanted to defend savers and businesses that wanted to invest. Behind the financial crisis, he said, was a potential economic one.

But Sarkozy and other Europeans, including British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, want to go further. They talk about overhauling financial institutions and having a new version of the post World War II Bretton Woods conference that established a new monetary and financial system.

That is what they may be bringing to the table during talks with President Bush at Camp David.

Audio: G-7 Nations Agree on Financial Action Plan 2008-10-11 10:07:17

The top officials from Europe, North America and Japan agreed on joint action to stabilize markets and restore confidence. Saying that the current situation requires urgent action, they pledged cooperation on measures to unfreeze credit and get banks to lend to one another.

They promised to use all the tools at their disposal to prevent the failure of banks and institutions that could destabilize the global system. They will increase deposit insurance so that savers have confidence that their money is safe. And finally, they pledged action to make sure that money continues to be available for home purchases.

The seven participating countries are the United States, Japan, Britain, Germany, France, Italy and Canada.

The daylong meeting at the US Treasury was attended not only by finance ministers but also by the heads of central banks, including the European Central Bank, responsible for the 15 countries using the euro currency.

Henry Paulson, the US Treasury Secretary, chaired the meeting.  "What stood out to me was that everybody said the same thing. Here are the issues we've got to deal with. Let's learn from each other and let's stay in communication. Let's go about developing these measures as soon as we can."

The Group of Seven meeting capped a week in which global stock markets suffered losses of 15 to 18 percent. It was the worst week for markets in 30 years with no region of the world immune from the financial panic associated with the freezing up of normal credit operations.

Paulson said he expects continued market volatility but he is confident that stability will be resturned. "Never have all of us been more dependent on the others and more connected. This is truly a global marketplace. It is truly a global economy. Growth in any area helps all of us, weakness anywhere hurts all of us."

Paulson conceded that credit markets are still clogged and that more action is required. "We've got more to do in the liquidity area. It is the pressing, short-term issue that we're facing."

On Saturday a broader group of finance officials, not only from these seven industrial democracies but also from Russia, China, India and other developing countries meet to discuss the global financial crisis. There will also be a meeting with President Bush.

Audio: Question remains: What Led to Fossett's Crash? 2008-10-05 15:31:22

MAMMOTH LAKES, California (AP) -- California officials say recovery efforts around the site of adventurer Steve Fossett's downed plane may not resume until summer.

Snowfall ended the search in the Sierra Nevada on Friday. Madera County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Erica Stuart says she does not expect weather conditions to improve enough for crews to return to the site this year.

Authorities say they completed most of what they needed to do Friday when they removed debris from Fossett's plane and found three more bone fragments.

The bone fragments will be sent to a lab to determine whether they are human and a match for Fossett.

Fossett vanished in September 2007 during what was supposed to be a short pleasure flight. Wreckage from his plane was discovered last week, solving the lingering mystery of his disappearance.

But a larger question remains: What caused such an accomplished aviator to crash in a place he knew well, on a fine September day?

Finding the answer may take many months. On Friday, investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board began hauling debris from the crash site by helicopter. They plan to reassemble the plane at a Sacramento warehouse, piece by tiny piece, to look for mechanical failures. Gathering archival weather records, including winds, clouds and turbulence for the day of his flight, also is not simple, officials said. With luck, radar data will help determine Fossett's path and pinpoint the time of the crash...
