幸福在很大程度上，maybe more than 90%, is relative, not absolute. Below certain threshold， happiness is strongly correlated with wealth。比如说一个月能吃二两肉的就比一个月只能吃一两肉的要幸福一倍。 但在一些基本需求得到满足之后(food, shelter entertainments , leisure, and proper medical care等)，这时候，幸福就与财富脱钩,幸福就变成相对的了。相对幸福有两个方面， relative to your peers(to “keep up with the Jones”), and relative to yourself(am I doing better than last year? By how much?)
可以说幸福取决于财富的变化(财富对时间的一阶导数)，而不是静态的财富的数量。一个人突然继承了很大一笔遗产，拿到很大一笔分红，他会感到很快乐，but that’ll only last for maybe a few weeks, he’ll get desensitized quickly and his feeling of happiness quickly reset to baseline. After that, he will need another, and progressively larger and larger doses stimulus to feel happy again. 如果你有一百万，再给你一百万，你会感到很快乐，但如果你有一千万，你可能需要额外的三千万才能感到同等程度的快乐(diminishing marginal utility).
On the same hand, the function of happiness vs. money is not even monotonic. 也就是说有时候钱越多会越不幸福，幸福曲线并不是单调上升的，而是会出现拐点(二阶导数为零)。 你有一千万，再给你三千万，可能你就会担心上街被偷被抢被贼惦记，或是穷亲戚都要上你们家蹭饭来了。中了Lottery的人结果好像都不幸福。Sometimes money is a curse. 成为众人关注的中心有时候也挺难受的，连在海滩晒晒屁股都要让全世界参观，Imagine how much they’d be willing to pay to be left alone, something you and the Jones take for granted? 当然如果本来就想让人参观那就是另外一回事了.
In terms of keeping up with the peers, 物以类聚，人以群分很重要，当然最关键的是要保持一个平和的心态，钱还是要挣的，要不怎么keep up with the Jones? However, if you can’t keep up with the Jones, try to realizing that there are many things the Jones might be jealous of you for。穷有穷的不易，富也有富的难处。
那么，怎样保持一个平和的心态呢? 多读读红楼梦，多做做广播操，多呼吸呼吸新鲜空气(fresh air is available to the rich and the poor(or those who are “yet to become rich”) alike, no more, no less), 不要攀比，养不起小主播的同学就不要养了, 我是说暂时不要养了，真要想养的话等养得起再养，或是先养点别的，比说如花花草草阿猫阿狗什么的，还能改善环境。 有时候还要学会多往下看，少往上看, 比如说，养不起小主播的多的是，养不起小主播不丢人，OK? 一年两三百万都不够的话，左总也养不起(not that I'm going to even if I can afford it, OK? lol...), the Jones也养不起，我猜叫兽也养不起, even if he’s suitably oriented sexually, LOL… 人家叫兽还是上海人呢。不过叫兽一天至少吃三顿饭，顿顿有肉，这不是每个上海人都能做到的，OK? 而且人叫兽的桃李比皇上的大小老婆加一块儿都多，想找谁谈心就找谁谈心，想给谁A就给谁A。人吃的还是流水席，年年岁岁花相似，岁岁年年人不同，你养小主播你能一年一换，一换一个班么? 最重要的是，即使叫兽穿着empereur’s nouveau couture在 la Bôstôn rivage打板羽球，我猜也不会make it past the local headlines. LOL…
