West Lake – Huizhou 惠州西湖

On July 6, after visiting grandma, I decided to spend the night at Huizhou at the hotel by the West Lake, a place I have loved since my first visit at 10 or 11. Naturally, West Lake is not the most beautiful place on earth, but my favorite poet Dongpo Su ( 苏东坡 ) used to live there. “I wish we all could live healthily and longer, and we could share the same moon though we are thousand miles apart ( 但愿人长久, 千里共婵娟 )” Said the poet in one of his most famous poems. You would not fully understand what the poet was talking about when you are young. One day, you understand it so much that you want to give the poet a hug. Too bad, you are old!

Next morning, I woke up by the early morning call because I planed to visit the tomb of Shaoyun by myself. Shaoyun was known as the poet’s favorite concubine. There are no records showed why Shouyun was so attractive to Dongpo Su, maybe due to her secondary status. I could feel that the poet loved Shaoyun truly on the poem after visiting Shaoyun’s tomb 10 years after her death. “I don’t need to think of you deliberately, I just can’t forget about you. ( 不思量, 自难忘 )…I wonder how you look like now? My face is full of tears and my hairs are gray at this moment.” When I pulled the curtains, I saw thousand of tears staying on the window. I could not tell which one is Shaoyun’s and which one is Dongpo’s. I could only wave to the island where Shaoyun is resting. Hopefully, it will not be raining next time.
