Chapter 6 I Still Didn’t Cry

(134)

I tried to hold back my tears.

I brushed the dust off my knee.

I didn’t want Mom to see it.

She would be worried about me.

(135)

I went back to the basement room.

I quickly put on that shoe.

Fortunately, Mom wasn’t there.

She didn’t see that I was blue.

(136)

What can I do or play?

I couldn’t go anywhere.

I looked out of the window,

Standing on the only chair.

(137)

It took a long time for a car

To pass by in front of me.

I silently counted them,

One… two… three…

(138)

Nothing was interesting.

Slowly, I heaved a deep sigh.

I felt so tired and lonely,

This, I couldn’t deny.

(139)

I thought of my Chinese friends.

I really wanted to cry.

Suddenly, I saw some white

Fluffy things flying in the sky.

(140)

It was snowing! It was snowing!

The white flakes fell more and more.

I was thrilled. I had never

Seen such big snowflakes before.

(141)

It seemed as if they all

Got together to say, “Hi.”

It seemed as if they all

Happily danced in the sky.

(142)

When I lived in South China,

It was warm and rarely snowed there.

I wished I could mail some snowflakes

To my Chinese friends by air.

(143)

In China, we didn’t

Have big beautiful snow.

But my dear friends and I

Had a lot of good times, though.

(144)

In the city that we’d lived in,

There were many big willow trees.

In the hot and humid summer,

They gave us nice shade and breeze.

(145)

Willow trees always gave off

A lot of catkins in the spring.

Like a snowflake, a catkin is

A sort of white and fluffy thing.

(146)

Each catkin carries some seeds,

The willow trees’ sons and daughters,

On their long seeding journey,

They fly over lands and waters.

(147)

Catching catkins with my friends

On a beautiful spring day

Was my favourite game,

I was very glad to say.

(148)

We children happily jumped

And ran in the spring sunlight.

The catkins liked to play with us.

They often stopped their seeding flight.

(149)

Waiting for us to catch them,

The catkins had a quick stay.

When we walked close and almost

Caught them, they flew far away.

(150)

I missed my friends so much.

I looked at the snowy sky.

The view became blurry

But I still didn’t cry.
