Nankai University reported in a survey to which as many as 94% of the respondents said bribery was widespread in Chinese business. As many as 77% of the respondents replied that if necessary they, too, would resort to bribery to get the deal they are after.

All-China Federation of Trade Unions (ACFTU) took on Wal-Mart stores and, get this, ACFTU won. Wal-Mart hates unions...I do, too, but... ACFTU, with its membership of 150 million in 1,174 branches took on Wal-Mart and its 1.6 million employees in 16 countries. Wal-Mart has 23,000 employees at 60 Chinese outlets.

Beijing is striking deals. The US is trying to save the world. In May of this year, Australia shipped its first installment of $25 billion worth of liquid natural gas to China.

According to Tyler Marshal, Globe Correspondent, China's trade with southeast Asia grew by 20% last year to more than $130 billion. Double digit growth is expected for many years to come. Spain and Japan was helping the Philippines to build a rail line to connect the northern suburbs of Manila with neighboring Bulacan Province home of several industrial zones. But, Spain and Japan both backed out. China stepped in to finance the $1.2 billion project. This kind of developmental project has become a priority for China...building more than good will.
