Forever Elvis
I like Elvis. I like his love songs, his handsome face, his charming eyes and his mellow voice. He is a love song prince. He is the king of Rock N Roll. I once even went to our local little theater to watch Elvis's imitator singer's concert. The theater was packed with audiences. The singer looked like Elvis, dressed like Elvis, acted like Elvis and sang like Elvis. Some audiences were crazy for him. What a night. The PBS documentary described Elvis as "an American music giant of the 20th century who single-handedly changed the course of music and culture in the mid 1950s."
The song Love Me Tender is from the movie Love Me Tener. Elvis starred in the movie. It was the first motion picture made by singer Elvis Presley The movie talked about two brothers fell in love with the same woman with a tragedy ending.
When I drive to work every day, I enjoy listening to our local music station which has a lot of classic songs. The hosts are Shanna and Debbe. Actually, they are couple. They are so funny. They have all kinds of programs in their show and give out prizes to the winners weekly. Such as: they play a part of music and let the listerners guess out the singer's name or the song's name. Or they ask listeners the weird questions that they can come up with. One of my favorites was Mission Impossible.
Last Octorber, my kids and I met Shanna and Debbe in our local annual Persimmon Festival. They invited my kids to visit their station. I took my kids to watch them live broadcasting during my kids winter break. Shanna and Debbie were so nice to my kids. As soon as we entered their brodcast studio, they let each kid introduce themselves to the listeners. My 9 years old son is our family "diplomat". He loves to talk, especailly talks to adults. He has endless questions which will drive you crazy sometimes. He is the "talker" in the family. Yet Dongdong is the "doer". The youngest one has a terrific sense of humor as for a five years old kid. Shanna let my two little girls sit on his lap and show them how to play the keyboard. It was such a fun experience for my kids.
OK, back to Elivs. Elivs was born on January 8, in 1935 at Tupelo, Mississippi to Vernon Presley and Gladys Love Smith. When Elvis was eleven years old, his mother bought him his first guitar as a birthday present.
Actually, Elivs was very close to his mother. In a newspaper interview with The Memphis Press Scimitar, Elvis said that " her mother was the number-one girl in his life, and was dedicating his career to her". According to the official Presley website, his first of two double-sided demo acetates at Sun Studios, "My Happiness" and "That's When Your Heartaches Begin", which were popular ballads at the time, it was Presley's much-belated birthday present to his mother.
On August 16, 1977, Presley died at his Graceland mansion in Memphis, Tennessee.
Following his death in 1977, US President Jimmy Carter said, "Elvis Presley's death deprives our country of a part of itself. He was unique and irreplaceable. More than 20 years ago, he burst upon the scene with an impact that was unprecedented and will probably never be equaled. His music and his personality, fusing the styles of white country and black rhythm and blues, permanently changed the face of American popular culture. His following was immense, and he was a symbol to people the world over of the vitality, rebelliousness, and good humor of his country."
Forever Elivs, my all time favorite singer.
