While some parts of the United States' Hong Kong Bill were thankfully removed, the version signed into United States law gives Donald Trump unprecedented power. He will now be able to seize assets of persons from any country in the world, if he alone determines they have undermined the United States' interests in Hong Kong.
This vaguely-worded bill formally forces the United States' attentions into a joint declaration it was never part of, for a city over which it has no jurisdiction, in a country against which it is waging a trade war.
It legally requires the United States to officially support criminals who committed their crimes during protests, and to encourage other countries to do the same.
This is imperialism in the purest form. I can't help but feel the world has become a little less stable. Today I am ashamed to be associated with my own country.
