 She shared a message from one of the subjects, Bob Wells: ”‘Compassion is the breakdown of all the barriers between us. A heart-to-heart bonding. Your pain is my pain. It’s mingled and shared between us.’

“Now this is why I fell in love with making movies and telling stories,” Zhao continued, “because it gives us a chance to laugh and cry together, and it gives us a chance to learn from each other and to have more compassion for each other.”

维基简介：Zhao was born Zhao Ting in Beijing in 1982. Her parents were the manager of a steel company and a hospital worker who was in a People's Liberation Army performance troupe. Vogue said she described herself as "a rebellious teen, lazy at school" who drew manga and wrote fan fiction. She loved films growing up, especially Happy Together by Wong Kar-wai. When she was 15 years old, despite knowing nearly no English, her parents sent her to a boarding school in the United Kingdom.^[5]

Zhao studied at Mount Holyoke College earning a bachelor's degree in political science.^[8] She studied film production at New York University Tisch School of the Arts.^[9]
