Submit 485 Myself b/c Company Lawyer Is Slow

I am working in a big company. The company’s immigration lawyer did everything for me from the very beginning and now I am eligible to file I-485 before 8/17/07 (EB3, I-140 already approved). However there are too many cases in our company and the lawyer may not be able to file my I-485 before 8/17/07. I am thinking of filing I-485 myself first, but I don’t want to let my lawyer knows. So it is possible that USCIS receives two I-485 packages for me, one from me and one from my company. Here are my questions.
Situation 1: Before 8/17/07, I can be sure that my lawyer has filed I-485 on time.
In this situation I will try to cancel the application from my package. How can I do it before receiving the receipt? Somebody suggest that I notify my bank to stop payment on my checks and let USCIS not be able to cash my checks. Then there are two possibilities:
1. USCIS sends me the receipt only after they make sure they can cash the checks. Once they couldn’t cash my checks, they will reject the application without sending the receipt.
2. USCIS sends me the receipt first, and then case the check. Once they find they couldn’t cash the check, what do they do?
Situation 2: I cannot be sure that my lawyer has filed I-485 on time and have to wait for the receipts. USCIS opens the package from my lawyer first and send the receipt.
In this situation I will also try to cancel the application from my package. Again the only way I know is to let USCIS not be able to cash my checks, and so I have the questions from the previous situation.
Situation 3: I cannot be sure that my lawyer has filed I-485 on time and have to wait for the receipts. USCIS opens the package from me first and send the receipt.
I don’t want to cancel the application from my lawyer. The only way I can think of right now is to wait until USCIS open my lawyer’s package, and this leads to the next situation.
Situation 4: Before I do anything, USCIS opens both packages.
Can USCIS figure out that both packages are for same applicant? If yes, what are they going to do? If not, I think they are going to send another receipt. Then how can I cancel the application from my package?
Situation 5: I just heard that I can send my package to either NE center or TX center. If this is correct I may try to send it to TX center since my lawyer is going to send it to NE center. I heard that this is called “Second Filing” and they will handle both packages under the normal process as long as they receive the fee. Please correct me if I am wrong. Then I will also cancel my application once I can be sure they have received the package from my lawyer. Again how can I cancel it before/after receiving receipt? If I do not cancel, are they going to handle both?
In all of the above situations, is there anyway that my company lawyer knows that I have sent another package? What kind of trouble will I have if he knows? Is it okay for USCIS to receive two 485 packages for the same person?
Thank you very much for your input.
