Chongqing, with meandering mountain ranges, is crisscrossed by rivers, in which there are many ancient towns and historicrelics scattered。Like on-going rivers, the passage of time never ceases。 The outside world have been walking at the head of time,
while those ancient towns still remains leisure, tranquil, indifferent to worldly concerns and in its natural grace。 Flagged paths,
timbered little bridges, murmuring brooks, shady bamboo groves, shabby streets and houses made of timber or bamboo are allwitness to the age, even though a little receding with time and grace。
The past has vanished from memory like wind。 To get away from the noise and pollution of the city in our leisure time, we shouldgo to the ancient towns to breathe the fresh air, which is the very place for us to enjoy their distinct identities, to relive ourchildhood, or to purify our souls。 The concerns for them would lift us out of and above ourselves。 Walking in the ancient towns,
we would witness their past and what our forebears had experienced。
