Maria Francisca “Xisca” Perello

20-year-old Maria Francisca Perello, whose nickname is “Xisca”, keeps such a low profile that many had no idea she has been dating tennis star Rafael Nadal for the past three years. You won’t find her watching her boyfriend play because she doesn’t want to be a distraction. Nadal’s uncle, Toni Nadal, who is also his trainer, said:

‘I guess a lot of girls will be upset to know the truth. My nephew always maintained he was single. It was a well-kept secret but actually his girlfriend is waiting for him in Majorca.’

Maria Francisca “Xisca” Perello Biography
As a biography, Maria Francisca Perello is 20 years old. She and Rafael met while in school in Majorca. Xisca attends a university in Palma, Majorca’s capital and is currently preparing for her exams. Xisca’s cousin, Maria Perello Limones, said that Xisca is not into the typical WAG demeanor – “She is a straightforward, no-nonsense girl not interested in glamour and fame.”

Nadal's coach, his Uncle Toni, was asked after the match if he thought Rafa was as good as Federer.

"No," Toni said flatly. "Federer, he won six times here. Rafael only two. And Federer has 16 Grand Slams, and Rafael only 8."

Will Rafa ever catch Federer?

"Very difficult," Toni said. "I don't know, but if I put money, I say no."

Although Federer has been blessed with relatively good health -- in part, due to his clean, smooth style -- Nadal's wrenching, physical game already has worn on most of his various joints. There have been three notable scares in the last year alone. Tendinitis in his knees forced Rafa to miss Wimbledon last year, and in this year's Australian Open, down two sets and 0-3 to Andy Murray in quarterfinals, Nadal retired because of a knee injury. As recently as his third-round match with Philipp Petzschner here, he called for trainer four times to consult on his sore right knee and left bicep. And though Nadal won that match in five sets, it underlined how vulnerable he can be physically and how quickly it can turn.

Nadal still seems to possess a great passion for the game -- the only question going forward that really matters: Are his knees up to a run at Federer's record?

The answer, of course, is impossible to know.

"He's certainly got a chance," said U.S. Davis Cup captain Patrick McEnroe, who called the match for ESPN. "I don't think he'll stay as healthy as Federer, and I don't see him dominating at 28 or 29 years old.

"But I think he could be quite effective for three to five more years. There's no telling how many more French Open and Wimbledons he can win. I believe that this year is his best chance ever to win the [U.S.] Open. With Juan Martin del Potro out and Federer questionable, he could go three-for-three."
