太阳光线照耀地球40分钟就相当于全球一年的能源消费。在美国，仅西南部就至少有25万平方英里土地适宜建设太阳能发电设施，一年可接受超过4500×1015BTU的太阳光辐射。仅将太阳光辐射的2.5%转化为电能，就可满足美国2006年的全部能源消费。h%

环球能源网获悉，印度将加快发展太阳能光伏生产，正在提高其在全球光伏板市场上所占的份额。位于美国加州的Signet太阳能公司于2008年初宣布，将在今后10年内投资20亿美元，在印度建设三套太阳能光伏生产装置。
