『道德经 第六章』（谷神不死）

 道德经上篇：《道经》

 

 第六章

 

【原文】

谷神不死①，是谓玄牝（pìn）②。玄牝之门，是谓天地根③。绵绵若存④，用之不勤⑤。

 

【注释】　　

①谷：形容虚空。神：形容不测的变化。

②玄牝(pìn)：象征深远而看不见的生育万物的总根源，这里用以形容“道”的不可思议的生殖力。牝，生殖。

③是谓：这叫作。

④绵绵：冥冥无形象，连续不断的样子。

⑤不勤：不劳倦，不穷竭。勤，尽。

 

【译文】

虚空不定的变化是永不停歇的，这就是生育万物的神秘莫测的总根源。微妙的生母之门，就是天地生成的根源。它绵绵不绝地存在着，作用无穷无尽。

The unfathomable God is immortal.
This gave birth to all mysteries.
From the gate of this motherly being come Heaven and earth.
Everlasting and dwelling in mystery,
She is what she seems not.
She gives and is not exhausted.
