Early tonight, I found that Amazon was streaming The Bodyguard for free to its prime memebers. Smart move, Amazon. Getting all the publicity for its video service. But I didn't fall into their trap. How depressing would it be to watch the then-stunningly-beautiful Whitney in the movie on the day of her death? So instead, I went to netflix and watched a documentary on Bill Withers, Still Bill. Sooooooooo Good!!! Such a big contrast between the lives of Bill and Whitney, two extremely talented African-American musicians. Bill is so together, so well-grounded, so wise and so down-to-earth, so knowing what he wants. Bill left the music business at the peak of his career, around the time when his son was born. He stopped tours and started spending more time with his family; Whitney got married with Bobby Brown at the peak of both of their careers, started doing drugs together and went downhill from then on. We were all waiting and hoping for a comeback of Whitney, from her free-falling career, and of Bill, from his reclusive life. But Whitney, despite her 2009 album, never really came back; Bill, wasn't coming back either, but this documentary shows he is very healthy, very much Still Bill and is enjoying writing and singing songs.  In the documentary, we saw Bill celebrating his 70th birthday with his family; And today, we heard the news that Whitney has died at the age of 48, survived by her teenage daughter Bobbi Kristina. Amazing contrasts.
