Whispers gone with the wind

-- Death experiences --

I have several encounters with death in dreams. All of them left me very unpleasant experience.

Once I felt extremely suffocated with very conscious feeling of speeding heart rate and difficult breathing. In another time my organs including brain ballooned like crazy till they all exploded robustly and made me wake up with pitiful tears.

The memory for these death dreams are unbelievably clear and gave me a desperate experience. I doubt there might be some real pathophysiological changes (i.e.: extremely increased HR and shortened respiration) during these death-like phenomenon, even in the state of dreaming.

I even doubt that if I have a tendency for developing sudden death, a rarely found genetically related heart attack (thank goodness no such family history!).

Hard to believe that death feeling in reality (i.e.: in alert state) could be a euphoric experience. After all, all of those death experiences described so far came from those they actually did not die at last.

Therefore, we may still have no clues about what could be the feeling of last moment before our knocking t death goddess’door. Im a fan of fatalism, but not that too pessimistic.

-- A Vagabond’s Hometown --

Hometown, my colorful fall
I was that puppy chasing the ball
Running through that golden gate
I found my eternal mate

Hometown, my sultry summer
I was that sweaty bird in a hammer
To protest against the awful humidity
I was so thirsty of the cool fluidity

Hometown, my pink spring
I was that peach flower trying to bring
The whispers to the suave willow
And flirt him with the fragrant flow

Hometown, my crystal winter
I was a naughty snow eater
Gazing at silver flakes from heaven
I danced my soul to cloud seven

-- Camilla Claudel--

Camilla Claudel was a 1989 movie about the relationship between French sculptor Rodin and her talent sculptress & mistress Camilla Claude (starred by French movie star Isabelle Adjani).

Rodin's sculpture works, “The Thinker” and “Kiss”, as well as some other works were all influenced greatly by his affair with Claude, and Claude's gift and assistance as an artist and sculptress.

Rodin was once stunned by Claudel's bronze work of Rodin “Bust”, which was completed purely through her memory when her relationship with Rodin has deteriorated ( one can see this piece of work at Rodin Museum in Paris). Poor Claudel never recovered from her separation from Rodin, and eventually became a victim of Paranoia. Yet even Rodin himself said: she should not be just thought as a student of his, but a very gifted sculptor.

Claudel and Rodin’s relationship is reminiscent of the long-term companionship of novelist & existentialist philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre and philosopher & feminist Simone de Beauvoir.

It’s said that Sartre adopted Arlette Elkaim, one of his mistresses and the latter received the rights to Sartre's literary heritage after his death.

Probably the similar resentment tortured the heart of Simone as Carmilla did. Simone's bitter dispute with Elkaim and her indulgence in alcohol hastened her death. The major difference might also lied in the fact that Simone had other lovers in addition to Sartre, and she lived a longer, and more influential & achieved life compared to Claudel.

"Being and nothingness"...
Love and betrayal...

Both Sartre and Rodin have been thought to take some glories and ideas from their genius lovers. Nonetheless both Claudel and Beauvoir loved their master-level men unconditionally that they themselves might not care about that (i.e.: plagiarizing) at all, if any.

Undoubtedly, Sartre and Rodin wouldn't be the same ones we know today if they were not influenced by unrestraint love and rare talents of Claudel and Simone, respectively.

Rodin's one of my favorite western sculptors. H is a genus sculptor and his works are full of passion, energy and forcefulness of human beings. His "The Thinker", "The Kiss", "The gate to hell" as well as "The Burghers of Calais" are my favorite ones.

In general I worship sculptors better than general painters. So I love Michelangelo much more than Da Vinci, if let me choose among those famous western painters.

-- On Evita and Maddona --

Who is Evita?  She is the sultry one who slept all the way to high and married to someone who went to power through a military coup in Argentina...

But I love the character of the movie : Beautiful, sentimental, and full of women's wise and shrewdness. Her love story with Peron was also touching and impressive.I heard that Evita and Peron were both ardent fans of Tango, which culminated itself in Argentina during those days because of this couple's extreme affection of the dance.

As for the “forever Maddona”, I think she is undoubtedly one of the pride of all women in 20th century.

As an artist, Maddona never stops her pursuing creativity and new stuffs. Few popular singers, especially female ones, can still stay on top at this age without running out of new ideas and talents.

As a woman, she never missed anything a successful woman should have. She tested that a woman can be also a dominated symbol in a society or field where males usually control the center stage. She is also a good mother.

As a lover, Maddona is said to be a passionate & creative one too, with the only embarrassment of being refused by hunk Antonio Banderas.

All in all, as a human being, Maddona set her own style of behavior as well as the artistic mode rather than follow others' blindly.

As a business woman, Maddona is smarter than most of her Hollywood colleagues. She is a fearless one. She is simply a super woman, admit it or not.

Maddona's voice sounds tender, flexible and jubilant. Like a breezy message from a secret garden. Her dance is filled with passionate expression and spontaneity (though sort of bizarre and too avant garde sometimes).

I'm not Maddona’s fan anymore, yet still love several of her CDs in 1980's and early 1990's. Perhaps her only failure or drawback as an artist is her mediocre acting in most of her movies. I think her acting reached limit in where her performance was relatively impressing probably due to the fact that the protagonist there was a singer.

-- On guys --

The criteria for good or bad are always relative.

There are only interesting guys and boring guys, charming guys and less attractive guys, wise guys and stupid guys, aggressive guys and timid guys, sharp guys and dumb guys, cocky guys and modest guys, loyal guys and womanizing guys, hypocritic guys and honest guys, energetic guys and lethargic guys, diligent guys and lazy guys, handy guys and trouble guys, sexy guys and monk guys, athletic guys and sick guys, humorous guys and dull guys, jubilant guys and pathetic guys, family guys and workaholic guys,.....guys always feeling content like swine and guys never stopping pursuing their next goals.

What else?

-- In memory of Gregory Peck --

The Hollywood legend passed away peacefully in his sleeping Thursday morning at the age of 87 (6-2003).

Gregory Peck is my favorite among all of Hollywood movie stars. His craggy good looks stunned me while I watched his Hemingway adapted movie back in China years ago: "The snows of Kilimanjaro".

Peck's most famous films are probably his Oscar winning movie "To kill a mockingbird'(1962), and "Roman Holiday". His role as a southern lawyer & father who defended railroad black in "To kill a mockingbird" has been selected as No.1 movie hero by America Film Institute recently.

Peck’s grace and funny role in "Roman Holiday" where he romanced
Princess Andrey Hubburn once charmed so many audiences all over the world.

Peck's man of man whom women loved. He's a gentleman and hero both in
silver screen and in real life. He was once an activist of anti-Vietnam war during late 1960's and early 1970's, and among the lists of enemies by Richard Nixon.

I remember that Peck once visited China years ago. Perhaps not many Hollywood stars are favored and respected by Chinese people as Peck has been. Guess there are also lots of Peck's fans in mainland China, before, now, and forever, just like in his own country, for his unforgettable roles in more than 60 movies and his extremely graceful and manly style like good looking.

-- On Spiritual Sanctuary --

To create a spiritual sanctuary or a fantasy world is basically the way how human beings handle their fear for death and their so far still clueless knowledge for the nature of Cosmo, and maybe an unfulfilled life in reality too.

Yet a so-called perfect paradise or whatever wonderland is not what I aspire for and I also think that it might not be the eventual nirvana for human beings.

Perfection or a monotonous culture is probably like a dead pond, ---- what’s the fun for us to live in such a timeless/changeless Eden?  I would rather suffer in this ugly world, which makes me feel that I’m a living thing who can think functionally and dynamically.

Paradise might also mean an unbearable lightness for life. For kids, a beautiful fantasy is what we adults want to show them when they first embrace this world. Eventually, children will differentiate between the cruel reality and virtual reality. Should one feels happy just 'cause of his willing to believing in unconfirmed wonderland, is it too naïve and rueful?

Nevertheless, keeping one's hope is a positive thing which we should never lose.

-- The beauty of barren mountains in California --

Most of so-called mountains situated at ocean-side of California are rock-like without much vegetation.

Scattered lakes with transparent water on top of hills give infertile mountains a sign of life and sacredness. The valleys between those mountain ranges sort of present a thrilling scenery as Grand Canyon does.

Gazing at moon from such a uniquely beautiful environment is an enjoyable thing to do, which makes me touch the majesty of nature and experience human beings' worshiping for nature's wonder.

-- Sunshine --

Recently I watched a movie titled "Sunshine", which is about an epic story of a family in Hungary between 19th and 20th centuries. At the end of the story, one of the protagonists murmured in a weak voice right before he made farawell to this word:

“what's the purpose of this miserable life!?”

About life, I'm a fatalist. After all, all these busy as heck phenomenon (or life) will end in nothingness, ultimately. Perhaps what we can control in this life is to savor whatever we can grasp and try to find sunshine even immersed under torrents of sadness & hopelessness.

Unbearable lightness or heaviness in life, let's just be happy!

-- On Hemingway's works --

What inspires me most in Hemingway's works is the irresistible virility, unyielding spirits challenging destiny, and persistent devotion to sacred causes reflected by his male protagonists. Of course, Hemingway's female protagonists are also beautiful and characterized by loyalty to their love, men, and ideals.

The succinct but usually vivid and accurate descriptions, together with implied meanings between the lines, which are represented by Hemingway's writing style, make his novels easy and exciting to read. Yes, his protagonists more or less deliver paradoxical personality, yet are always full of heroic behavior which touched readers' souls deeply.

In essence, what have I found in Hemingway's works? Passion and spirits, two of most important factors motivating human beings' life as well as the progress of society.

-- Reflection on Frida’s 折腾 life --

A vigorous life requires 折腾, usually.

Haven't watched , yet read some anecdotes on Frida, as well as the ensemble crew in the movie.

Although physically not matched to Frida's petty sized and weak body, I feel that J.Lo may deliver Frida's romantic streak and unstopped pursuing to life and arts better, compared to Hayek. Hayek's facial expression is relatively boring and rigid to me.

Many of us are alive or breathing, but actually like dead men in walking, sometimes. But Frida's an unyielding spirit and aspiration for a dramatic life made her strength and charm surpass the physical vehicle of her life.

What can one expect more for a colorful & meaningful life, if we look at Frida's lifelong pursuing, excitement and sufferings? She had a not only non-boring but also TRUE life.

-- On “黑骏马”--

A very classical style utilized in spreading the plot developed in this touching love story but also mixed with some skills of "stream of consciousness".

Yet I dun like the way that author expressed his views directly in certain paragraphs uttered by the male protagonist, which was unnecessary and made the novel read like a preaching stuff, somehow.

It's also true that the novel is reminiscent of Russian-styled literature work though I didn't feel much annoyed with its wordy description, partly due to the fact that the story itself was good enough.

-- Reflection on a serene picture --

If could
I'd like to be that fog ever
To curtain the charm of you
Let the green be seductive forever
So no one can just touch and go

If could
I’d like to be that ancient river
To mirror the desires beneath silent clouds
Let me give a comfort when you quiver
We talk with no need to speak loud

If could
I’d like to be the mountains behind you
What a luck to be the backbone of a gorgeous life
I’ll be a pacemaker when you stop to go
Together, we are not afraid of darkness and knives

-- Cassini's disappointment --

(Reflection on Rings of Saturn and Cassini’s mission)

A seven year flight,
Brought me a delight--
A delight in caressing,
A beauty with a flashing.

Shimmering from the distance,
Dull as a close-up countenance;
The sassy ring is no more a fog,
But like a piece of simulated log.

What would Titan bring?
A fancy, methane spring,
Falling from a rugged cliff?
While I'm having a funny sniff?

Please, the magic in the methane lake,
No more a beautiful fake......!

(Question: Could the life which might survive on methane/nitrogen dependent microbes on Saturn..., be phantom looking ones, or foxy and mesmerizing images?)

-- Tulip --

Oh White tulip
Shining side by side
Farawell to coldness's grip
Happy tears on smile wide

Oh black tulip
A brave girl's heart
For whom she kept silence
For what she threw a dart

Oh yellow tulip
Yearning for her soldier lover
Petals dance like a ribbon
Elongated to transfer its fever
