BMT patient

I am on BMT this month working from 7am to 6pm, 6 days a week, no calls. Not bad at all,  compared to last month--q3 calls in Neurology.
Yesterday it was Saturday when I took off. When I got back to work rhis am I was surprised to find that one of my patient deteriorated Saturday night and was transferred to ICU. He was newly diagnosed with follicular lymphoma at the prancreas head obstructing the biliary duct and required the ERCP to open the pancreatic duct. I signed off to my my coworker while he was with GI service before I left late Friday afternoon.

Later today I was told that he might have developed sepsis during ERCP procedure. However, I thought all over again and couldn't think of any sign of sepsis that i might have missed. The only explanation is that the germ in his gut might have translocated to his blood stream. He was intubated and moved directly from GI to MICU. He is a great patient and his cancer isn't terminal. Hope he will survive the sepsis and come back to our service to reveive his treatment for his lymphoma.
