Chinese art

What I want to say is Alex Wu’s art, his experience with Chinese art must go into the world. Because Chinese art is human, Chinese art must have a history, a philosophy, a practise, a natural and human environment and protect the earth. . Chinese art first comes from nature, the artist is deeply involved with the Chinese philosophy, with harmony. This is very important for the Chinese artist. He is limited by the use of rice paper and ink brushes, colours.

With rice paper it is very difficult to control the art experience. To make good art you must highly concentrate at the whole body’s energy. In Western art you can change, you can cover, you can do much more than in Chinese art. Because rice paper is too thin and rice paper with water is easily split. It is very difficult to control, to make good art. The material is limited, the artist must be highly concentrated, full of spiritual energy, physical energy and nature energy and express the artist’s life experience and art experience. That is why Chinese art is highly concentration and also it is very pure when the artist has a good connection with nature and with the spiritual experience. That is why most Chinese artists write down a lot of poems, philosophy and self opinions in the piece of art. The Chinese art has a historical meaning, educational meaning, a meaning for humanity, for nature and also the artist’s self meaning. When you see the Chinese art you feel the artist‘s background and education level. And also Chinese art has more nature energy. This kind of energy we call spiritual energy in the art.

I give an example. I remember in 1994 I had an art exhibition in the Pacific art museum. A lot of people came to see my art. When they saw my art their tears came out. Why the tears come out? Because my art’s spiritual energy touches their heart. It moves their brain and spiritual power. This art is just very simple, a few bamboos with some birds and a butterfly. It has a kind of spiritual and magnetic power inside. It touches the audience’s heart. That is why they buy my art. So the art is a pure spiritual, energetic expression. That is why my art philosophy says the wise people feel my art, normal people see my art. This is my art philosophy. And another point.



Promotion of Chinese art

Chinese art so far is quite limited. Only in the Chinese, Korean ,Japanese circle or Asian circle. It has a lot of limitations and it’s position is still not so high. That is why I went to many countries to see the museums. I didn’t see Chinese art hanging in the museums. That is why in 1994 I planned to have a world Chinese art competition, the purpose is to promote Chinese art in the whole world. I spent years of my salary on the promotion of Chinese art. Al the money I saved I spent for to the promotion of Chinese art. I got a lot of problems, because some people got jealous, they put their problems on me. Fortunately I did good things with mister Harbers. At first the Amsterdam government planned an Amsterdam church. But later some people got jealous, they forced us to keep my Chinese art competition in the building of the parliament in the Hague, Binnenhof. This made me suddenly famous in the whole world and the Chinese art community.

Chinese art is deeply related with the Chinese philosophy. The Chinese philosophy comes from nature. Even the Chinese characters originally come for nature. Like the character of a man is a field with power, the character of a family is a roof, with a pig under it. The Chinese culture continuously goes on, doesn’t stop compared to the cultures of Java, South America, Egypt culture. They all stopped, the Chinese culture still keeps going. So the Chinese culture comes from nature. We use brushes and rice paper, they all come from nature. The same like the Chinese culture. I remember when I was young I liked to paint. Then I asked a friend, he is a good artist, he makes books for children. He told me the most important thing is you must buy the pen, the paper, go into nature and keep doing. practising. Then you get perfect. Learning form practise, from nature is the best art. Since I heard his few words, it gave me a lot of support. I remember them a whole life.



Learning from practise

Then I went to buy a pen, paper, brushes. The first year I went to nature, sketched the flowers, insects, animals. I also painted panda bears. I think the result was very interesting. I give an example. I remember in Chengdu at that time a whole street it is an art street, selling the art for the tourists. Next to the Jin Jang hotel. I painted two panda bears playing the ball. Then I wrote down one panda bear is Bush, the other panda bear is Reagan, they play a game, a political game. Then I hang them on there, an American passed and could understand what I paint. He wanted to buy my art. He asked for the price. Then I said 50 yuan, at that time that were the costs for small art. Then the interpreter asked how can your art cost 50 yuan because in that time 50 yuan was 500 euro. I said you should not care if I paint good or bad, because the American understands me, he wants to buy, it is not for you. The interpreter shut his mouth, then the American did buy.

Another example. I sketched art in an hotel in Tibet, I asked one nomad to sit down there I sketched his body and face, I takes me one hour, I almost finished then the tourist passed his way, he said I sketched very beautiful, then he wants to buy immediately. I just finished and sold my art.

Another example. I think in Tibet I painted nice Tibetan portraits and I remember one French guy, we were in the Zedang hotel there, he asked me to paint his face. I sketched his face, went home and painted very beautiful. I felt he was happy because he was very intuitive, he could make good poems and good music, he also was a handsome French boy. Anyway I liked him, he is a nice French guy. That is why from the few days we got contact I felt deeply about him and painted very good.

I was very lucky when in 1986 the president of the Pasadena museum from California came by, he always went to Tibet to collect Chinese art. He fist went to Beijing to collect the most famous work from two famous artists, then he came to Tibet. By the way he selected my art. I was very lucky to meet him and he liked my knowledge, liked my art, so he bought my art.

Another example from Tibet is also very interesting . One time I was very poor, I almost ran out of money. I was in the Holiday Inn hotel in the lobby when I met an American guy. Then we talked, he said he was looking for a Chinese artist, he meet me he saw I was an artist, then he wanted to see my art. I showed about 20 pieces of art, then he bought everything for me and I immediately became rich. So the art gave me a lot of support.

And also in Ohio, the Finlay university. I had an exhibition there. I got a lot of money and I had an exhibition in Florida, also I got a lot of money. That is why I came out of Tibet to travel to Europe, because I sold my art in America. I was very lucky compared to a lot of Chinese. My art gave me a lot of financial support. I think also because my art is pure and a lot of people feel the purity of my art. I don’t have a dirty mind, they feel my purity, they feel my inner power, inner spiritual energy. That is why a lot of people like to buy my art. Anyway I was very lucky.



My art touches people

I think during my art practise a lot of interesting things happened. When I make art, people get immediately touched by my art. This makes me very enjoyable. I think artists like to share with other people, with the world because that is a kind of gift for our human society. Sharing is a leading principle of my philosophy. Sharing the energy, sharing the food, sharing the knowledge, sharing the art. For me, I like to share with people.

When I came to Europe I wanted to look for the real art world, enjoy the traditional art. In Europe I mostly respect Rembrandt, not Vincent van Gogh. Rembrandt’s art gives many feelings, is a deep historical expression. When you see his art, you see the people of that period with in their inside the feelings of that time. I think European art influenced me, because it is free. One can paint freely, out of happiness, free of ideas. It is free like birds flying in the sky, free of thinking, just enjoying the movement of the energy. The same is my way of painting. I am free. I am also free to write in my poems what my idea is with this portrait or with this nature art. I love to paint the Dutch landscapes, special the river Rhine and the mills, the small countryside, the farms.



My subjects

At the end of 2007 I suddenly got interested in portraits. I spent a lot of time, a lot of energy to feel the people inside, because I researched the people. The people’s inside is expressed on the outside. The different age, different characters, different expressions. I am deeply touched, because I researched many years about good and about bad people. So my art sometimes has ugly and beautiful people, kind people, aggressive people.

I also like football. One side is my sun is very interested in football, another side why I like it is because you can feel the most difficult positions of the people during the football. The face expression is free, is movement is action. That makes me excited, that is what makes me to want to paint it, immediately. You feel, it touches your heart, touches your soul, touches your spirits. That is why the movement in the sports is very important for my portraits. And also the different faces in different positions, smiling, crying, enjoying, sad, all different emotions. My interest is to watch, to observe, to paint it out. This gives me a lot of happiness.

And also the historical art. During the second world war the Japanese army misused Asian and Dutch women as sex slaves, as comfort women. I am very angry at those military using sex slaves. That is why I painted the comfort women, sorrowful, crying, angry, hopeless. Until now they still got no recognition for these Japanese crimes, they still demonstrate, are angry. They continuously go to court, but the Japanese court didn’t accept the Japanese criminal actions, they don’t want to agree with the whole world. This month the Dutch court, the American court, the Canadian court and the parliaments made an agreement that the Japanese government must say sorry to the Japanese comfort women. I painted two pieces about this.

And also I am very touched by the animals. A lot of people think animal is just an animal, but I feel an animal is the same like us. They have the same life, the same emotions, happiness, enjoyment the same like us, only the life style is different. But their inside is the same, they contain the cosmos energy that makes them move, makes them to survive, looking for food. That is why I like to paint animals. And also I paint about the animals sorrow when the nature environment is destroyed. I painted the duck, covered by the oil, I called it the oily duck. Like last month two oil boats were broken by the storm in the Black Sea, then all the birds, the ducks were full of oil. They were dying. I painted the oily duck to keep the people remember this disaster that destroyed the nature, destroyed life, destroyed the environment.

That is why I want to use the art that has a deep meaning to educate the people. This art maybe ugly, maybe nobody buys, but I think it has a deep meaning to educate the people this oily art, oily duck. Life is a struggle when the nature disasters come. Ugly art has a good meaning. That is why my art philosophy says : if you don’t paint ugly art you are not a good artist. So you should paint good and ugly art, you should also paint art for environmental teachings, to teach he people to protect the environment. I sent this art to China, people don’t like it, they only like my mill and river, my landscapes. They are different. Most Chinese artists are only looking for the beauty of the art. I also want to make art out of a philosophy, make historical art, educational art, art for protecting the environment, art for more humanity. My philosophy is all related with my art.

I paint animals, like the donkey with the goat. The goat climbs on the donkey’s back to pick the pears, they both get pears to eat, the donkey also gets massage from the goat. This art is interesting to show the animal’s wisdom.

Most of my art is collected by the foreigners, little art is collected by Chinese. Now more Chinese collect my art. Most I sold nature art like flowers, birds, landscapes, mountains, European landscapes and the ancient Chinese people and wisdom people like Dafu and the landscapes in China. Of course the panda bears and a lot of bamboos.

Also my portraits, I love the people, their happiness, their characters. I paint don’t care about the Dutch, Chinese, European and African black people. I paint all people. Maybe in Chinese art nobody paints African people, because Chinese like white people. But I don’t care if the art is sold or not, because I care my own situation, my own feelings, my own spiritual expression.



My art’s dream

And also my art’s dream, I want to become a good artist, not only the portraits, also the landscapes, buildings, animals everything. I don’t have a school education. I like to watch, observe, practise. Through my practise I get a lot of benefit from my own art experience in combination with my medical philosophy, my books, my experience with the people. I makes me rich, rich of feelings from and for the art. My art stream is Chinese art, that has to be accepted by the whole world, by the global village, has to integrate in the whole international community and the whole global family. My dream is to build up art museums in the whole world : Africa, North America, Middle East, China, Australia, Thailand, Korea, New Zealand. Most I like Europe, I love Europe and China. I think Africa is very interesting for my art. A lot of subjects are African, it is a kind of characteristic. For me and also for my art it is easy to express the African faces, African characters. One day I will go to Africa to sketch and to paint .

Chinese art gives me a lot of support. Specially in the philosophic way. It makes me more wise, thinking about the nature together with human society and also the cosmos energy movement. The artist expresses himself in the rice paper and with brush and ink come out the beautiful people, landscapes ,mills, trees, birds. It gives me a lot of freedom and happiness. I create a lot of philosophy art because I do a lot of research about the relation of mankind with nature and about people, good people, bad people, middle class people. Chinese philosophy traditionally searches for the balance. So the Chinese art is a symbol of the harmony of technique with philosophy.

I remember in 85 or 82 this period, I painted a lot of nature products : flowers, birds and panda bears. And Chinese landscapes. I remember in a humorous and philosophic way I painted 2 panda bears, they play with balls. Then I wrote down one is Reagan and the other is the old Bush. I said they play political games. I remember that time in Chengdu the Jinjang hotel they have an art market. I hang out my paintings in the art gallery there. Two Americans passed their way with an interpreter. They found it very interesting, they wanted to buy. I told them the price, they got surprised and they are very happy to buy my art. To enjoy my art philosophy and political philosophy and jokes, humour.

And also I paint to teach people. If you do something bad it comes back to you. Like I painted Marion Jones, the American runner who won 7 Olympic titles. She took doping and lied in the court. But later her problems came out, she must say sorry in the court, she lied a lot, she made a lot of people disappointed. Last week came out that the whole American baseball team most of the sportsmen used doping, the factory made some tablets to let the sportsmen pass the examination. If you take that tablet they cannot find the doping in your urine. It is one of the big scandals in the American sports field.

Also I painted OG Simpson, he was a criminal, he killed his wife, lied in the court then the judge said he was not guilty, he became free and wrote a book with the title ”if I did it”. This book shows he was a criminal. Now he is in the jail. These 2 cases prove my philosophy: good causes good result, bad causes, bad result. At the end you will be punished.

This philosophy I practise in daily life, in my art, in my medicine. I also painted some art to teach people don’t take junk food. I painted a young girl enjoying the snack food, she is very fat, bad hormone food damages the people’s body, they become fat. This art teaches people that in the 21 eth century we have to take the nature way, we should take good food, not bad food and snack food that makes you fat and hungry, you want to eat much more, cannot stop. You become not normal any more.

And also another art I painted about from the Dutch ABN/ AMRO banc. I painted the chairman. He makes ABN/AMRO bankrupt but he gets a lot of money from that. And the loss of ABNAMRO for the Netherlands tells people you cannot hold up everything always, everything is moving, everything is turning around. The two hundred years old Dutch AMRO bank goes to Fortis and the banc of Scotland, everything changes. I call that :the Feng Shui is turning any moment. It is a kind of energy movement. This proves my philosophy: cosmos energy is always moving, never stops

Even the 200 years old ABN //AMRO bank has to be sold to Fortis and the Scottish banc. This also is a kind of education, it proves my philosophy, the cosmos energy is moving.



My art is my inside freedom

And also very interesting, when I first came to Holland I wanted my art back from Florida. Jack had my art exhibition, he sent my art back to Holland but he wrote down my art value is 20.000 Dutch guilders. That is a lot of money for the custom office. Then the custom office sent a bill to me and asked me to pay the tax. So the joke is you must pay the tax for your own art to get it. I asked my friend to write a letter to the Schiphol custom office that it is my own art, I should not pay it. Then later they gave me my art.

I think as an artist, you need to have a strong self confidence, self assurancy, to paint, to make your own philosophy, your own freedom inside, your spiritual freedom expressed in the paper. I did a lot of free experience. For example now with the Chinese characters in hand writing. I should have my own style, own idea’s, own philosophy. So I write down, I don’t copy other people’s style, I just express my own characteristics in my calligraphy, in the art. If people see my art, people can immediately know that is Alex Wu’s art.

It is free expressed, every day I keep on painting. Every day I paint at least one piece. Every day I touch brushes and ink. A lot of people don’t like me to paint, don’t want to see my art. But I don’t care. I use their negativity in a positive way. I think it is a kind of encouragement, a kind of advertising for me. I am sure a lot of people say I am very bad in art. But I don’t care. I trust myself I believe I am a good artist, not only believe in the mouth but also in the action, in the practise, in the art field. That is why every day I paint one piece or two and write down poems and my experiences, my philosophy. I paint what I think and feel, what I observe, what touches me: the nature, the philosophy and society’s positive good part, negative part, all together.

Today I painted a family, a happy family needs world peace. I paint the mother with daughter with father, three together, to express the happy family. The happy family is related with the society, they need peace, they need matter, need food, need accommodation .This is my philosophical reflection. The happy family should have a happy world, needs worlds peace. The war in the 21 eth century is still going on, we can stop the war and give peace to the people to make more happy families. This is my wish and my purpose.

And another piece. I wrote down and I painted the woman psychologist. I wrote down most psychologists have a psycho problem, that is my experience in dealing   with psychologists. A lot of them have problems. They try to use their psycho energy to control me, they try to make a lot of games, even if helped them as a doctor to have a child, to have a daughter, they still try to control me, to make a problem for me, or cheat me, misuse me for teaching in their area and also to misuse a kind of sexual energy, playing games. These kind of things I wrote down, my experience. That is why I painted it out. It is funny, but reality in the society. I am sure everywhere, in China it is the same.

Another piece of art is about Diana. I painted her because she is from a poor family and married prince Charles. Immediately she got a high standard life style and immediately became rich. She said when she was young she dreamt to live a luxury life. That is why she realised her dreams, because of her beauty. She is searching for the material, she is a materialist. She got what she wanted, but she has to pay the price. The family life is bad, no basis. Sexual attraction is only for a short time, just four, five years, then the sexual energy doesn’t attract the husband any more. The physical beauty cannot hold Charles, then he went to Camilla. Then later all problems come out, Diana had a very sad life style, even while she tried to get famous, she is really famous, she realised her dreams, she did something for poor children in Africa, for children in the whole world. She said she is ambassador for the UK. What I don’t understand is that the ambassador of the UK was killed by a car accident. I really cannot believe it. That is why I said it is a trick, a joke. But you can see, when you are searching for the material you can easily be killed. So it is a kind of sacrifice of her life, it is not a happy life. That is why she got a depression, she was sick, she was sick of food, so mentally, psychologically, spiritually she is empty and sick. She looks at the outside very luxury and beautiful, but inside she is sick. This is a poor, beauty lady. So the material beauty is not a good life. This is my philosophy. Chinese philosophy also says a young rich beauty always dies earlier. So it proves another Chinese life philosophy of the beauty and the material.

I also paint a lot of singers and movie stars. In the 21 eth century the whole world has spiritual emptiness and spiritual confusion. They put religion like a movie, a movie star is their god, or they put religion in the football. The football is their religion and the football star is their god. But my philosophy is: nature is our religion, is our god, nature is our spiritual nutrition. That is a kind of criticism of the 21 century, the spiritual empty life style, material life style. It damages people, they don’t live happy inside. That is why sick art, sick theatre, sick mentality, all comes out. Sick poems, sick songs, it reflects the society.

And also for protecting the environment I do my best to teach the people to protect the environment, keep the earth cool, not get fever. That is why I paint the duck black, the duck’s feathers are all oil, it cannot move, cannot do anything, a lot die. Because of storms in the Black Sea, two oil tanks were broken by the storm. So a lot of ducks were full of oil in the sea. I think not only ducks, also the fishes, the sea birds, a lot of sea life was poisoned and died. I paint this environmental art, to protect the environment, to tell people we damage the earth we damage our environment, we pollute our air, we pollute our ground ,we pollute our water, we kill ourselves. For the environment it is very important.

Also I teach people who use my art, that the animals have a lot of wisdom, like the goat with donkey. The goat climbs on the donkey’s back to get pears. That shows the animal’s wisdom, the animals are clever, they also have emotions, they are the same like us, only the living conditions are different. They are more limited than our people. The spirits are the same.

I think my art and my medicine is very important for my life. They are my lovers, they are my partners. All my emotions, philosophy and spiritual energy exchange with my art. So is more important than money, than other things. When I don’t paint, I am not happy. When I paint you know Alex Wu is happy, is balanced, in harmony. So I treat them very good, the same like my lovers. They are my lover, my spiritual lover

智者悟画!愚人观画!记得93年我在荷阿姆斯特丹博物馆办画展时!开幕时很多人其中有位女士站在我的一付竹子作品前两眼猛流泪水!约小时都不动!我很吃惊!还以为她受了什么委曲!上前问她才告知被我作品感动了!她悟到了此竹画的磁场!并要买下这付竹子!我告诉她要等一个月后展完才行!你们做梦也想不到他就是汉斯的老婆!练俞加十几年,对中国文化情有独忠!这真是高人悟画!愚者观之!

好画家丑美作品皆全!真正的艺术家是好坏皆画!反映社会的真实性!大千世界无奇不有!我多年来对人性研究契而不舍!去西纳旅游专找社会最底层人士做朋友!对他们的苦辣酸都很同情!他们肚里没花花肠!易做朋友!对那些政客.商人交道少!人从以类聚!最近画了一张荷兰工人的作品!及沙特妇女被强暴后.还判两百鞭型及半年坐牢!还画韩国八十六岁的日本慰安妇 在法院悲愤控诉小日本犯下的滔天罪行!此画人人都渭可怕!我却觉得它反映了人性历史丑恶面!还有两张布什画象题款是战争犯应送海牙国际法庭受审!美短跑运动员琼斯在加州高院门口向世界承认她服毒及作伪证的罪行!其<<贪官戏妓>>作品相当丑陋!我没考虑我的作品能否卖!但它反映历史真实面!接下来画一批反贪腐及陈水扁等臭恶的人作品!
