Costa Rica (2) - Flora and Fauna

(2007-09-17 14:37:52) 下一个
Because of its tropical climate and abundant rain water, Costa Rica is rich in floral and fauna. It is easy to spot colorful wildflowers anywhere, by the streets, on the mountains, at people’s back yards.

We did a one-day wildlife Safari on Cano Negro River, spotted animals are Iguanas (those monster-look like animals are actually vegetarians), Howler Monkeys, Lizards, Caimans (close relatives to Crocodiles, but smaller in size), Toucans, Bats, Nightingales, and many other birds that I could never remember their names. The tour guide is very helpful in pointing out these animals along the river, the tour guide is a friendly young man who served in the Costa Rica militaries for more than ten years, traveled extensively throughout Central American countries. He helped us to take a shot of a Howler Monkey with its baby at the back using binocular. I upload a picture of him with Steve and kids, (nice smile, Raman).

Another time when we were walking on the gated hanging bridge tour at Santa Elena Reserve, a wild hog running towards us (me, Ceci and Aiden), it was only a baby hog, with a height less than a height of an average-size dog, it seemed innocent and harmless to us, Ceci even petted it as if it is just a puppy. But when it yawned and showed its two long sharp front teeth, I instantly restrained myself from any personal contacts with this animal. Enjoy the pictures.
