Local IT Developers put Australia on the Google Idol Shortlist!

An Australian band formed purely out of their love for security software has been short listed in GoogleIdol, an international online competition in search of the world’s best musical performers.

Rootkit, a group of four IT Developers from XXXXXXX Australia, have been selected for their hilarious song and video clip ‘Patch Me Up’ which they wrote, produced and even feature in - all on the exciting topic of patch management (!?).

The ultimate send up of a technology used to secure computer networks, ‘Patch Me Up’ was nominated in the Original category, making it the only Australian group to make the shortlist.

“We are so serious about computer security in our day job, that we wanted to take a lighter approach to something that we work so hard on,” said the group’s front man Matt W, who is eagerly promoting his new stage name ‘Matt Finnish’.

“None of us are in any rush to quit our day jobs, but we think winning GoogleIdol would bring us that 15 minutes of fame that an IT Developer usually only dreams of.”

For IT developers Paul Fabienne, Mark Goodchilde, John Singin-Cox Q.C and Matt Finnish, this Gidol dream is about to become a virtual reality.

Whilst working with a team of over 60 developers at XXXXXXX Australia on software that improves the way people work all over the world, they have no real plans to release an album any time soon. However, they will continue to produce exciting technology tracks for fun.

“XXXXXXX Australia, and worldwide for that matter, support Rootkit in their quest to be GoogleIdols. One thing is for sure, whether they win or not, they are already idolised at XXXXXXX for their great sense of humour and the brilliant energy they bring to the team,” said Geoff M, Vice President, XXXXXXX Asia Pacific and Japan.

The rest of Australia can get behind Rootkit by going to http://www.googleidol.com/original/index.htm#Comp2 and voting for Rootkit at the bottom of the page.

Rootkit will not be signing up a celebrity manager at this stage. They have though, already signed up a publicist.
