　　老北京有句话：这人要是精，成不了龙，也得成个“虫儿”。
　　“虫儿”指的就是在一个行当里深入进去，成了行家里手的那些人。
　　当今的中国人都知道，要是没有改革开放，中国人就永远摆脱不了贫穷。改革开放在每个小人物身上最突出的表现，就是最大限度地焕发了每个人生存的本能。社会的变革必然带来人际关系的变化，也必然使每个人发生深刻变化。人们在进行生存竞争过程中，不同的人适应着社会，顺应着社会，物竞天泽，适者生存。每个在自己所能驰骋的天地里有所造就的人，都在努力把自己变成那个领域里的“虫儿”。随着改革开放年深久，这些“虫儿”们的人生历程，构成了我们这个社会色彩斑阑的众生百态图。
　　《人虫——小人物的故事》取材于刘一达的纪实文学集《人虫儿》。主要表现在我国改革开放的二十年里，发生在北京社会生活中各行各业的“虫儿”们身上的故事。
　　全剧采用大系列、小连续的形式，通过《买卖虫儿的故事》《沉浮古玩虫儿》《房虫儿入海》《与票虫儿斗法》的不同故事，以滴水见太阳的方式，塑造出了一个个鲜活生动的人物，描画出当今社会变革给每个人带来的巨大变化.
