漫种秋兰四五茎，疏帘底事太关情。
可能不作凉风计，护得幽香到晚清。

 

Autumn Orchid by Zhu Xi (Soong Dynasty)

 

Four or five orchids I but idly plant out there,

Yet through the slatted screen, why do they stir my care?

O mayhap I had not reckoned with the chill breeze—

I’d guard, till twilight, the quiet fragrance they bear.
