An Octave by Zhou Zi-zhi (Soong Dynasty)
(After Rain)
The mizzle lends the pool a dimpled mien,
The afterglow girdles every tree’s waist.
Lo, clouds unveil the mountains clad in green,
Breeze spreads sweet lotus fragrance in no haste.
Keeping her tryst, here ascends fair Selene,
Emerald melons invite tongues to taste.
O, pray stay, cormorants — ‘tis so serene
That we’d fain enjoy the night, coolness-graced.
