无媒径路草萧萧，自古云林远市朝。

公道世间唯白发，贵人头上不曾饶。

 

A Quatrain by Du Mu

(To a Hermit)

 

My patronless pathway lies choked with weeds,

As e’er, the cloud-crowned woods forge hermit creeds.

Nothing so impartial as greying hair,

E’en noble locks turn white like blooming reeds.
