A Ci-Verse by Zhang. Yuan-Gan (Soong Dynasty)
Embraced by cloud-clad hills of vernal hue,
A straw hat, a straw cape, a fisher in blue.
In drizzle, o’er a vast river, gliding white gulls a few.
The sail, full-blown, the drawn-in fishing line askew,
As wind passes through.
A fishing boy, a woodcutter, come into view—
Clapping and laughing, they heartily do.
The sky and moon bestow one light, all true,
A boat-life transcends dawn and dusk anew.
He coldly gazes at the city — a noisy mew,
Though his eyes are drunk on brew.
O his life moves on like a canoe,
Upon the misty water sans much ado.
O who’d stir the dust to reap self-wrought rue?
