Oriole-Errant by Li Sangyin
The oriole-errant roves, now here, now there,
O’er fields, o’er rills, yet it wit not where it shall fare.
How could its warble be without intent?
A good season may not yield days bright and fair.
Through windy dawns, dewy dusks, rain or sunshine,
While countless doors ope and close, it glides in the air,
Is there a sprig for it in the royal city?
Alas, to hear its long spring grief I cannot bear.
