This is very true, I was an army cadet and hated by most as I was the C.O's son. Everyone there hated anything that might mean they have to think so when out on route marches, when the old man wasn't around they would make me do the map and compass stuff. This happened for years but gave me a quiet life so I was happy to do it...I only ever messed up once, took us down a couple roads in wrong direction, realized my error, said we had to double back. Not one person agreed and so they elected to take a short cut that ended up taking us several hours off route.
I tried to tell them. But they focused so much on that one mistake to the point of refusing to not communicate with me verbally that they forgot that none of them could read a map or use a compass. Arriving hours late at camp, they then lied to my old man...who knew, of course, it was a lie; thusly, I was not, in the end, blamed. The real moral is people will do what they want regardless. Leave them to it.
Natural selection exists for a reason; just make sure that if you are along for the ride that you don't end up "sailing in the same boat" as them. If they are lucky, they will watch this clip or get told of the issue in some story at some point in their life. If they are truly smart, they will learn from it; if not...well, we reap what we sow!

Wonderful… My journey has been full of mistakes… And I wonder when that will stop… But I’m happy to just be here and try to make more mistakes so that eventually I will come together as a whole person… I wonder if this is possible for anyone… Nah… I don’t think there is any perfect person.
A teacher for an exam paper gave all the students one sheet of white paper. When he said Turn over your paper they saw it was still all white with one black dot in the middle. He wanted them for their exam to write an essay about this page.
When he collected in all the pages when time was up and read their essays, he failed them all. All of them had written about the black dot, and not one of them had written about the white one. Given the perspective of the dot on the page, he said that is how some people focus on others - they only see the one thing and miss the entire rest of the person - and so too with situations.
My fear of mistakes is directly proportional to how much that mistake would cost me.
I've worked all my life on new housing. People are quick to point out flaws. Just like they usually see the glass half empty. People are willing to say that's messed up," You're wrong, or Bad job. Never hardly say Good job, Well done, or Wow.
