This music is centuries old. Johann pachelbel never knew that 339 years later, people would hear his song wirelessly on handheld fast electronic calculating machines. He has gained immortality through his work.

Pachelbel's Canon (also known as Canon in D, P 37) is an accompanied canon by the German Baroque composer Johann Pachelbel. The canon was originally scored for three violins and basso continuo and paired with a gigue, known as Canon and Gigue for 3 violins and basso continuo. Both movements are in the key of D major. The piece is constructed as a true canon at the unison in three parts, with a fourth part as a ground bass throughout. Neither the date nor the circumstances of its composition are known (suggested dates range from 1680 to 1706), and the oldest surviving manuscript copy of the piece dates from 1838 to 1842.

The English name of 《巴卡贝尔的忧伤》 is "Pachelbel's Canon in D", or more fully, "Canon and Gigue in D major" by Johann Pachelbel.
However, your phrasing—"巴卡贝尔的忧伤" (Pachelbel's Sorrow)—is not the literal name of the composition. It seems to be a poetic or romanticized reinterpretation, likely inspired by the piece’s emotionally resonant, melancholic character when played on violin or in modern arrangements. The original Canon in D is a Baroque piece composed around 1680, known for its serene, repeating chord progression and gradual instrumental layering.
In English, if someone refers to it as “Pachelbel’s Sorrow,” they are likely highlighting:
the emotional or nostalgic feel of certain modern violin or string interpretations,
or perhaps a contemporary reimagining with a more melancholic mood than the original celebratory or ceremonial tone (it’s often played at weddings).
Would you like a lyrical or poetic English translation capturing the feel of “巴卡贝尔的忧伤”?in English of 《巴卡贝尔的忧伤》这首著名小提琴曲
