玛丽的诗：天鹅

天鹅

你是否也看见，

一整夜它都在黑河里漂曳？

那你看见了吗，

清晨，它像一抱白色的鲜花

冉冉升起，融进银色的空气？

 

当它斜着身，躲进翅膀，

身体便像丝绸，

亚麻那样抖动起来。

一道雪堤，一堆百合花。

它是在用黑色的喙啄着空气吗？

 

你听见了？笛声，口哨声，

还有那激动人心的黑色音乐，

犹如泼向树林的倾盆大雨，

犹如瀑布直切黑色岩石而下。

 

最后，在白云之下，你可看见？

白色十字架滑过天际，

它的脚像黑色的树叶，

翅膀像由河水延展而来的天光？

 

你心里可感觉到，

它在如何归化万物？

那么，你终于悟出了吗，

美有什么作用？

 

那么，你的生活有所改变吗？

 

 

The Swan

Did you too see it, drifting,

all night, on the black river?

Did you see it in the morning,

rising into the silvery air，

an armful of white blossoms,

a perfect commotion of silk

and linen as it leaned

into the bondage of its wings;

a snowbank, a bank of lilies,

biting the air with its black beak?

Did you hear it,

fluting and whistling

a shrill dark music,

like the rain pelting the trees,

like a waterfall

knifing down the black ledges?

And did you see it, finally,

just under the clouds­—

white cross streaming across the sky,

its feet like black leaves,

its wings like the stretching light of the river?

And did you feel it,

in your heart,

how it pertained to everything?

And have you too finally figured out

what beauty is for?

And have you changed your life?
