“愚公移山”“铁棒磨成针” - 智慧乎，愚蠢乎？

我实在想象不出有什么事比“愚公移山”“铁棒磨成针”这样的事更愚蠢的了。人区别于动物的最大特征就在于思考的功能（感性与理性双方面的），人的生命的自我完成，就在于最大限度地成全这个功能。而把人的一生的智能贡献与某一种单一的工作，使人在有限的生命中无法去成全丰富多彩的智能，这是人对生命的最大浪费。

中国传统文化鼓励人对技艺“精湛”的崇拜（“玉不琢，不成器”“备物致用，立成器以为天下利”），其实是功利主义的人生观的结果。这个流传几千年的意识形态，在中国人心中已经根深蒂固。我个人认为这个功利之极的人生态度其实是中国文化的最弱最害人的环节，是中国人的最大悲剧。而现代社会的详尽分工，把人训练成专家，成为现代社会大机器的一个部件的现实，是人的异化的结果，也是现代人的最大悲剧。

i agree with what you said. i think we both are right because this type of metaphorical saying contain different aspects.
while your understanding is very true, another side of story is that many people use this teaching to kill many children/students' curiosity, make them just focus on one technique alone. make life boring.

The story is not about the stupity but about the philosophy of patience and slow life, instead of fast life.
