The Robe

Richard Burton played alongside two of the most beautiful women in Hollywood. Jean Simmons in The Robe, and Elizabeth Taylor in Cleopatra. Both are great movies too.

 

I read in the IMDb comments on the Robe, where Richard Burton 'hated' the film. He thought it would be the worst of his career. His main gripe was the 'religious implication', talking of God and Jesus, the crucifixion, etc. Burton was an atheist and simply did not care for his 'wooden' performance. It was the highest grossing movie of 1953 and still is immensely popular. Burton may not have intended for it to be so well received, but powers beyond his understanding have made it a classic.

Richard Burton was a fine actor and human being; he took care of his family back in the village when he became rich and famous, and he also truly loved Elizabeth Taylor.
